You are pairing yourself with the sensory tool before any demand is placed. The child must associate YOU and the TOOL with positive experience before any therapeutic use begins. This is ABA's pairing procedure applied to sensory substitution. Present the material with curiosity, not instruction.
Body Language

Within 3 seconds of the child choosing the appropriate alternative — deliver reinforcement. The brain's reward circuit requires temporal proximity between behavior and consequence to form associations. Three seconds is the window.

Use a visual timer countdown starting 2–3 minutes before the end. Allow one final complete use of the primary sensory tool. If child resists ending: Avoid power struggles — stay calm and matter-of-fact. Add one more brief use, then transition.
