Problem 2: Child refuses to sit on the therapy ball
Why: The unstable surface is genuinely frightening for a child with proprioceptive insecurity. This is a sensory response, not defiance. Fix: Deflate ball to very firm. Parent sits on ball first (modeling). Offer support hold for first 5+ sessions. Progress over weeks, not days.
Problem 3: Child removes the positioning band immediately
Why: The band introduces an unfamiliar sensory input. Acceptance must be shaped gradually. Fix: Start with band around only one thigh. Duration of 2 minutes only. Pair with highly preferred activity. Build tolerance week by week.
Problem 4: Verbal reminders keep slipping out ("sit properly!")
