🟢 GREEN LIGHT — Proceed when:
- Child is fed, rested, and in a generally regulated state
- No fever, illness, or signs of physical discomfort

- No major meltdown or distress in the past 30 minutes

The key insight: Do not sit the child down and immediately present the work. Introduce the supportive material first — let the child explore it — and THEN present the task. This sequence matters enormously.

The Active Ingredient — Supported Seated Engagement
With the child seated on the wobble cushion, foot fidget active, weighted lap pad in place, and hand fidget available — present the task. Set the visual timer for a duration the child can currently achieve. Start at 50% of their typical breaking point — if they usually last 5 minutes, start the timer at 3. The task begins. Observe without redirecting for the first 30 seconds.

3 Quality Minutes Beat 10 Forced Minutes Every Time
For G-663, "repetition" means each session is a rep. Aim for 5–7 sessions per week minimum — daily practice is the dosage that drives neural adaptation. Within a single session, if the timer reaches zero successfully: deliver reward immediately, optionally reset for a second round. Maximum 2–3 rounds per session; quality over duration.
Variation A — Change the task
Same wobble cushion + timer setup, but alternate: drawing → puzzles → reading → writing. Different cognitive demands, same physical support system.
Variation B — Change the material
Same homework task, but try: switch from wobble cushion to standing desk for one session; or remove the weighted pad and observe the difference.
Variation C — Change the timer
Progress the timer by 1–2 minutes once the child succeeds 3 consecutive sessions at current duration.
Variation D — Change the location
Same material setup but at a different table (kitchen → bedroom → library). Generalization across settings is a key goal.
Satiation indicators — stop the round when: Child's engagement quality drops significantly · Multiple requests to end session · Quality of task output deteriorates sharply · Body language signals overwhelming fatigue
Research dosage note: 2–3 formal therapy sessions per week is the standard protocol across 8–12 weeks. Home-based daily practice supplements this — the daily "small dose" is what produces between-session consolidation.

STEP 5 of 6
Timing Matters More Than Magnitude — Reinforce Within 3 Seconds
The rule: When the timer reaches zero and the child is still seated → deliver the reward IMMEDIATELY. Not after praise. Not after reviewing the work. IMMEDIATELY.
"YES! You did it! Timer's done — and you stayed! You get [reward]!"
"That's amazing sitting! The whole timer! Here's your [sticker/token/break]!"
"Look at you — you sat the whole time! That's [child's name] using the wobble cushion like a CHAMP!"
Tier 1 — Social
High-energy praise + physical celebration (high five, hug, fist bump). Always include.
Tier 2 — Token Economy

STEP 6 of 6
No Session Ends Abruptly. The Cool-Down Protects the Next Session.
If a session ends abruptly without transition, the child's nervous system associates the session with an aversive stop — reducing willingness in subsequent sessions. A structured cool-down communicates "this always ends nicely" and preserves motivation.

At Completion

Do not extend the session significantly in response to resistance — this teaches that resistance = more time, which eventually becomes avoidance resistance.

Most Sessions Don't Go Perfectly. That Is Normal Data.

Problem 1: Child refused to sit down at all
Why: Motivation for task was too low, or setting event (hunger/fatigue) undetected. Fix: Start with preferred activity on the cushion first. Let child "earn" access to the setup. Review readiness check.
Problem 2: Wobble cushion increased movement instead of reducing it
Why: Normal adjustment period (1–2 weeks) — child is exploring the new input. Fix: Continue daily exposure. Reduce inflation (firmer = less wobble). Typically resolves within 10 sessions.
Problem 3: Child kept removing the weighted lap pad
Why: May indicate sensory defensiveness to deep pressure, or weight is too heavy. Fix: Reduce weight by 50%. Introduce on legs over clothing first. Offer choice. Never force.
Problem 4: Timer increased anxiety instead of reducing it
Why: Child may be anxious about "running out of time." Fix: Switch to sand timer (less precise, less anxiety-inducing). Or remove timer entirely and use a task strip instead.
